2010 Oaks

  • Data associated with Oak Ecosystems Recovery Plan for the Chicago Wilderness Region (October, 2015). Lake County Forest Preserve District and The Morton Arboretum were lead collaborators for this project. The following text is taken from their metadata for this layer.

This data was created by Matt Casali at The Morton Arboretum. The data represents oak ecosystems of the Chicago Wilderness region that were present in 2010.

The data was created by analyzing multiple data sources including aerial imagery from 2010 and pre-settlement data created by Marlin Bowles and Jenny McBride. The data is a continuation of a data set that represented pre-settlement oak ecosystems in 1939. That data set was overlayed onto 2010 aerial imagery and then reshaped, clipped, or deleted based on oak ecosystem canopy boundaries still present. Included parcels had to be greater than one acre in size and could not encompass major roads or urbanized areas.
