MPC/Openlands - Select CAWS Land Analysis

  • The Metropolitan Planning Council analyzed select lands along the Chicago Area Waterways System and produced an online map to display results.

Openlands, relying on an earlier project, applied an additional analysis process to these lands. This process used the layers described here, with the following changes/updates. The Prairie State Conservation Coalition's IVIEW application data was used for conservation easements, forest preserve district lands, and the addition of selecting for lands with 200 feet of municipal parks. Data updates included 2013 CMAP land use data for open space, 2017 CMAP data for bike paths, 2017 Chicago land inventory data for potentially vacant parcels, gardens updated with Openlands supported sites through 2018, and The Trust for Public Land's 2014 ParkScore data. Also, Threatened & Endangered Species/INAI data was not applied in the analysis.

Green polygons signify areas of more intersections with or proximity to conservation related data layers, while red signify areas with fewer.
